Loaded Tuna Salad Mason Jars To-Go + The 21 Day Sugar Detox Recap {Weeks 2 + 3}

I always find it slightly troubling that life around you does not slow down when you do. For instance, it’s been several weeks since I actually completed my 21DSD (21 Day Sugar Detox), but I haven’t been able to write about it until now. Time did not freeze. The internet did not stop creating meme after meme. Life goes on, even when you’re laying on the couch with fevers and body aches. Somewhere in the third week of my 21DSD, I got really sick, and it set off a series of chain reactions. I got stressed out. My Lyme disease flared up in a major way. I’ve basically been spending my days trying to heal. This isn’t glamorous or particularly exciting. It looks a lot like day-sleeping on the couch and watching all the Netflix. Sounds nice, right? Just not four weeks in a row.

Citrus & Fennel Salad With Tahini Dressing

Dudes. Dudettes. Polar Bears. Information-Mining Google Robots…

I don’t know exactly how to address this little love letter to citrus, so, I’m just throwing it all out there. I’m experiencing a little bit of citrus fever. It’s a hopeful sunny burst of color exploding out of the dreariness of winter.

Okay, I’m lying a little. Winter here in California is currently not dreary, even though we’re promised some rain towards the end of the week. But, for now, I just went out for a sunny walk wearing only a t-shirt. Oh, and pants. Didn’t forget those. But, still. The sun was shining, I was warm and sweaty in just my t-shirt (and pants), and I had to use all of my self control to not pilfer all of my neighbors’ citrus trees. There are sooooo many! They are all dripping with citrus. How are citrus tree-owning people not jamming and canning and peeling and eating and slicing and dicing and marmalade-ing their way through this season?! How about lemon curd? Don’t even get me started. […]

Roasted Mushroom & Cauliflower Rice Salad With Spinach, Oranges & Olives {Gluten-Free, Paleo & Vegan}

Happy New Year, Friends!!

I hope you had a great holiday season. I spent my time road-tripping up to Washington state in order to spend Christmas with the in-laws. This is the first major trip we’ve embarked on since I started my Lyme treatment. Big deal stuff.  We packed up our little car and made room for our golden retriever in the back seat. We listened to a lot of  this podcast. We took Emma to the beach on Christmas day. We drank some of my Apple & Cinnamon Bourbon at night. We watched an entire slide show of really adorable fat naked baby photos featuring my husband as said really adorable fat naked baby. We stopped in Portland for a night on our way home  and stayed in a totally quirky dog friendly hotel. I woke up to gluten-free apple fritters and then spent too much money at Powell Books. You can check out more of our trip on Instagram. […]

Shredded Brussels Sprout & Green Apple Salad With Avocado & Pomegranate Seeds

Ever have those moments in life where you realize your vegetable consumption is WAY too scanty?

I usually feel this way after a holiday full of cookies, a birthday full of cake, or a vacation where I’ve favored margaritas over food groups. Or, heck… sometimes there’s no explanation at all. A girl just needs a serious veggie-vention (like, intervention…but, with veggies. It’s a stretch. I know) from time to time.  It’s in these moments that I find myself with insatiable veggie cravings. Like, standing at the kitchen counter shoveling handfuls of plain spring mix into my mouth. Or, shotgunning carrots like a frat boy would do beers. So, I figure I might as well stop grazing like an uncontrollable fridge-savvy rabbit and get down with a giant salad instead.  […]
