12 Grain-Free Christmas Treats

Christmas is coming, amiright? It’s hurling towards us at warp speeds. I haven’t bought or made a single gift. I don’t know what I will be baking. I’m in stage four Christmas denial. I know, I know. I don’t want to talk about it.
But,  in my quest to un-denial myself (I don’t think that’s a thing), I teamed up with some of my blogging buddies to bring you 12 grain-free Christmas treats! Enjoy! Okay… let’s go drown our worries in cookies and cake. You in? […]

Gluten-Free Pumpkin Pie + Let’s Talk About Thanksgiving Round-Up

Okay, so I got into this whole pie-making fiasco.

The season overtook me. I broke out the big guns and made pie crust from scratch. Shizz got real. Perhaps a little too real.

It all started with these Gluten-Free Buttermilk & Apple Hand Pies. You can head on over to that post and read about the trials and tribulations of baking a pie. Long story short, following directions is not my strong suit. Sometimes I get a little fast and loose with my measurements. Pie crust is not the place for this. Pie crust is math class. There are rules. Luckily there is also butter. This automatically makes pie crust better than math class. Life rule. […]

Bacon & Cranberry Roasted Brussels Sprouts With Honey Dijon Dressing

Okay, so I’ve been getting a little side-dishy lately. We’ve made Butter & Wine Roasted Mushrooms, Bourbon & Honey Glazed Carrots and now I’m punching you in the mouth with these Brussels Sprouts. Thanksgiving is upon us in less than a week, and I just want to make sure you have some bangin’ gluten-free side dish selections to accompany what is sure to be a hefty meal of turkey and all sorts of other incredible things. Is it weird that I am drooling just thinking about it? I plan to imbibe with a Pomegranate Margarita (or two) as well as sink my after-dinner teeth into one of these Gluten-Free Buttermilk Apple Hand Pies. Yes, yes. You guessed it. I will be wearing something spandex. […]

My Love Letter To YOU + Ginger Fizz Birthday Cheers!

Okay, Okay. I know you’re probably super tired of Birthday Week by now. It’s been an entire week of celebration. That’s a lot. Are you nursing a donut hangover? Yeah, me too. Or maybe it was that plate of ice cream sandwiches? Biscuits? Er…pudding? Who knows… it’s cool… let’s just throw a champagne cocktail on top of that. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, C-MON!! No regrets. Alright, so it’s almost over. Just bear with me. I have one more post for you. I feel like it’s only fitting I send off our first birthday with a full on love letter to YOU. It might get a little mushy… but, we’ll get through it. Afterwards we can get drunk. We’re going to mix champagne and bourbon together. What could go wrong? Don’t answer that question.  Okay, here we go… […]

Creamy Vegan Chocolate Pudding {Vegan, Gluten-Free & Paleo}

It’s still Birthday Week, and I’m still totally slingin’ dessert down your throat. Yesterday was ice cream sandwiches, today it’s pudding.

I know what you’re thinking. I can read your face…

You’re thinking that if you make this here pudding and pair it with a side of kale chips, plus some bourbon on the rocks then you’ve got yourself dinner! Funny, I thought the EXACT same thing.  I’m here to tell that you’re correct. Yes. That is a fine pairing. You’re a smart cookie. I like your style. Do you have some vegan friends? I’m pretty sure if you show up at their door with a bowl of this creamy chocolate pudding, A LOT of kale chips and a jug o’ bourbon then you’ve got yourself a vegan potluck. Yer welcome. Heck, I’m a total omnivore and I would not turn you away. Come on over. Let’s get that pudding party started. I’ll get two spoons. […]

Delicata, Pomegranate & Avocado Kale Salad {Gluten-Free, Paleo & Vegan}

Recently I completed a ten day cleanse. I needed a reset. My body was feeling sluggish, tired and heavy. I consulted a holistic nutritionist and off I went. Shakes. Veggies. Supplements. Repeat.

I didn’t talk about the cleansing process on here. I didn’t really want to trouble you all with my inevitable “EHRMAGHERD, ALL I WANT TO DO IS EAT MY ARM OFF AND YELL LOUDLY” attitude. That happened around day seven. Detox is a funny thing. It can make a usually jovial human being into a crazy, wonky-eyed monster, willing to sell their first born child on the black market for half a steak and a glass of bourbon. Perhaps this is dramatic, but still… it’s a thing. One night I cried into a bowl of Brussels sprouts. Just sobbing and eating. No big deal. I asked my husband to ignore me, as this was all just “part of my process”. He kept his eyes to himself like a gentleman as I tried to choke down sprouts through light sobs. This is no easy feat. Did you know you use a lot of your cry muscles to swallow? No? You don’t cry when you eat? Oh, ok… […]

Hangry Bear + Hanger Management

This, my friends, is a bear. This bear is hungry. This bear is angry. This bear is “hangry.” This bear sometimes waits too long in between meals and then yells at her husband when he offers to make her scrambled eggs. This bear will swear up and down and sideways that she is not hungry. Why does she have to be hungry? Can’t a bear just be emotional? Gosh. Nobody understands a bear. This bear will then complain that her stomach hurts and that she feels nauseous. Husband-bear will suggest again that his wife-bear is simply hungry. This bear will not have it. This bear is convinced that she is probably dying, and the only thing her husband-bear can think about is scrambled eggs. Typical husband-bear. Always thinking about breakfast.  Husband-bear will totally just make those scrambled eggs anyway, and place the loaded plate in front of his angry wife-bear’s snarling snout. This bear will devour them. This bear was the hungriest.

Confession… this bear is me. This is basically a self portrait. Hanger: it isn’t pretty. […]

Gobble Prep | A Recipe Perv Fest

Thanksgiving is a mere two days away.  It’s crunch time.  I am not hosting Thanksgiving this year and have only been tasked with the job of bringing the cranberry sauce.  This is both delightful and a little bit disappointing.  On one hand, I have been lusting after all of the wonderful recipes floating around out there.  One day I want a reason to make a Turducken.  I honestly don’t know if I want to eat it, but I feel like it is something that is on my culinary bucket list. How many meats can we Frankenstein together into a turkey? Sounds like a challenge, and I like a healthy challenge.
On the flip side of this thanksgiving hosting conundrum I basically get to show up, pop my cranberry sauce in the fridge, perhaps stir some gravy and then stuff my face with succulent meats and their delicious counterparts.  It’s a sweet deal.  I haven’t blogged much about my thanksgiving preparations and now you know why… cranberry sauce.  That’s it folks.  Did I mention that I had to ask if I could bring the cranberry sauce?  Yes, that is right… I could have shown up with nothing…or maybe just a four pack of Martinelli’s.  I am living a cushy Thanksgiving dream here. […]
