Curried Shepherd’s Pie With Sweet Potato Mash {Gluten-Free, Grain-Free, Paleo}

When my husband goes away on business trips, I have my routines. The first night I will cook myself something nice and then dive into either a TV series that he’d never go for (i.e. Hello, Gossip Girl on Netflix!), or make a misguided decision and watch a documentary that either freaks me out or makes me weep. Like, full on ugly cry weep with snot and chest heaves. This time it was this Showtime series called Time of Death. I think I dehydrated myself with the amount of tears shed. It hit me in all the feels. Lucky for me, before I started watching this series I had pre-planned with some comfort food. The weather was seriously stormy, so turning on my oven felt like the right thing to do. What happened next was this curried shepherd’s pie. Oh, and then like three hours of death-themed docu-series viewing and blubbering. I can’t be trusted to be alone with myself. On the plus side, I managed to have this comfort food ready in the wings. The last thing you need is to cry all the tears, get dehydrated and headache-y and then NOT have any food to put in your face. Never underestimate the drama of a girl who is both emotionally exhausted and hungry. Just ask my husband. […]

Slow-Cooker Chicken & Pumpkin Curry With Apple, Sweet Potatoes & Spinach {Gluten-Free & Paleo}

My crock-pot has been seeing a lot of action this fall. We’ve made a WHOLE chicken smothered with hard cider gravy. We’ve made these Soy & Ginger Ribs. I showed you how to use your crock-pot to make your very own chicken broth from scratch. Heck, we’ve even curry-ed in a hurry before.  Needless to say, I consider this appliance my friend. Except for that one time that it overcooked a pot roast to the point of inedibility. That night it wasn’t my friend. But, like… every other time. We’re friendly. Like, if it was a person, we’d probably have matching outfits and stay up late braiding each other’s hair. Something like that. […]

Tomato & Coconut Crock-Pot Chicken Curry With Delicata Squash & Kale {Gluten-Free & Paleo}

You guys. I just got back from vacation!

This body got out of the Bay Area and headed to a resort out in Carmel Valley. I spent three glorious days with my husband in celebration of our third wedding anniversary. It  was amazing.

There was a couples massage, breakfast in bed, sun-soaked naps after swims in the saltwater pool, more naps, lots of laughing, cocktails, wine, steak, and creme brule. We didn’t bring a computer. We put our feet in the sand, and our toes in the ocean. We honored our annual tradition of each writing a new set of vows, and reading them to each other someplace beautiful. This year it was on a hilltop that looked out at mountains. Despite it being acrazy and unexpected year, it’s in these moments together that I feel like the luckiest. Spilling the contents of our open hearts and holding hands (maybe with a side of light sobs–because, feelings). Gosh, I love this man of mine. This is getting mushy and wordy. I could write a whole post about this vacation. Maybe I will. You can see a few snaps of our trip on Instagram. […]

Curried Delicata And Sweet Potato Bisque

Let me be straight with you.

This recipe was created for the sole purpose of using my brand new immersion blender.

I had a very domestic birthday. I received a sewing machine (note: I totally sewed that place mat you see there. The hems are ALMOST straight. Pretty much a professional.) a three piece cupcake carrier, an immersion blender, tart pans, ramekins and a collection of amazing cooking and food styling books. (Oh, and a hangover. We will get to that in another post. Coming to you soon.)  Serious jackpot. I had never used an immersion blender before, but knew it was something that I wanted to try.  Who likes to puree their soups two cups at a time in a semi functional blender?  Not this girl.  I’ve scalded myself multiple times.  I have hot soup battle scars. I can be kind of a hot mess. My parents always said, “there’s a reason we didn’t name you Grace.”  I would like to say that comment is rude, but it is just ever so true. Darn it. […]
